We ran an online search and even the best examples we found rang in at under $10,000. If you are willing to take one with higher mileage, the prices start at around $5,000. I would like to see that... 7,5-8s sounds more realistic. Was my main problem when building up FWD cars. This made it the fastest front-wheel-drive production car of its era and truth be told, the Cobalt SS could likely keep up with most of the affordable performance cars on the market today. ahahahaha" Then, prove me wrong. The biggest downside of the Cobalt SS, as with most GM performance cars of the era, is the interior. If I was 10 years younger and still in my FWD phase I would be all over one of the new cobalts. GM even offered a dealer-installed Stage 1 kit, boosting the output to 290 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. I spent a heck of alot of time and money tuning a couple FWD cars and I never got the satisfaction I got with my RWD projects.
The cobalt SS was hands down one of the best performance values around.. even holding the ring FWD record for a short period. It's a shame really, some of the concepts looked great! Don't hop into a Cobalt SS expecting a cushy cabin and just remember this was a car built on a budget at a time when GM was nearing bankruptcy. Cobalt-SS is small & subtle, able to mount close to or far from the turnout it controls. And the current Cobalt is just a piece of cheap crap... GM has to do something. I named her "Serenity" hense the Serenity stickers on the sides... ^_^. Don't be tempted by the cheaper supercharged Cobalt SS or the normally aspirated model because neither comes close to the potential of the later turbocharged car. WTF is up with that?
My Pontiac Grand Prix was black, and I thought the color complimented the car's styling, then again, I think every vehicle loos best in black. Cobalt-SS is very stable because it uses stepper motors rather than servo motors.
This is an economy car after all, and not one praised for its upmarket cabin. Not many Fwd cars break the 6s barrier to 60(SS/TC) And 8s lol, not a single test would do that. Really don't have a problem with snap oversteer. I swear under steer is the most god awful feeling in a car. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual with no-lift-shift and launch control, netting a 0-60 mph time of just 5.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.9 seconds. If I could get the car to oversteer predictably going into the corner, I could get on the throttle early enough as I unwound the steering on exit.
